A Different Kind of Forever

A Different Kind of Forever is a feature documentary about a mother and her daughter, Ally.

Ally is autistic, largely non-verbal, and will never live independently. As she approaches adulthood, this film documents their life together—not to explain or inspire, but to witness what love looks like when parenting has no endpoint.

This is a story about permanence.
About presence.
About a future that doesn’t follow the expected path—and still deserves to be seen with dignity.

Filming is taking place over two years, culminating around Ally’s 18th birthday on October 9, 2027.

There are many stories about autism that focus on progress, milestones, or transformation.

This is not one of them.

A Different Kind of Forever exists to hold space for a quieter truth:
that some relationships don’t move toward independence—and that doesn’t make them any less meaningful.

This film centers on daily life, long-term care, uncertainty, devotion, exhaustion, joy, and love that doesn’t age out. It explores what adulthood means when independence isn’t the destination—and what “forever” looks like when it’s already here.

Updates on the film will be shared thoughtfully as the project unfolds.

🤍 Thank you for holding this story with care.
